Climate Change / Climate Resilience
Central Virginia, like much of the country, has begun experiencing more frequent, severe storms that have produced serious damage and loss of life. This is a disturbing trend that will worsen over time if climate change is not addressed and greenhouse gas emissions abated. Local actions are very important and I will work with our community partners to reduce the emissions generated in Albemarle County. We need to plan and prepare for future events to ensure we are as resilient to their impacts as we can be. I believe this planning begins at the earliest stages of development, and will also require modifications to existing infrastructure in sensitive areas, such as those prone to flooding. It also requires a well-trained and well-staffed public safety work force - our fire, rescue and emergency medical services.
